Firebrand’s Ready NOW program is building a team of community-based home risk assessors to help residents in Jackson and Josephine Counties reduce their wildfire risks, one home at a time! Whether you have a background in firefighting, landscaping, construction or experience working with rural or low income populations, or whether you have no experience at all… Anyone can become a Home Wildfire Risk Assessor! What we need are friendly folks with curiosity and a passion for community service.
Make an Impact in Your Community
Every single assessment has a ripple effect. By helping one family to harden their home, you can help protect an entire neighborhood. Home Assessors are at the frontlines of resilience—turning wildfire awareness into tangible actions.
When You Become an Assessor, You Will:
- Help protect your community by identifying treatable wildfire risks around homes.
- Empower neighbors with practical knowledge and resources.
- Become a visible leader in local preparedness efforts.
- Help build equity by ensuring even our most vulnerable and at-risk residents have access to support.
What You’ll Do As an Assessor:
- Visit properties in your local community and talk to residents, while evaluating wildfire risks to their home and landscape.
- Connect residents with reliable information, resources, and incentives to harden their homes and landscapes to wildfire, all while providing prioritized recommendations for tangible action.

What to Expect
- Training is provided.
- A flexible schedule that works for you.
- A Sliding Pay scale $25-$50 per assessment based on zones and areas assessed.
Please Note, All Assessors:
Operate only with homeowner permission and complete a waiver before training.
Do not clear vegetation or make home improvements directly.
Are expected to follow Firebrand’s volunteer liability and data confidentiality policies at all times.
Should be able to pass a background check.
